Abstract

John Calvin's theology of salvation is a central pillar of the Reformation tradition, emphasizing God's sovereignty in the entire process of human salvation. Calvin viewed salvation as a gift of God alone, without any contribution from human free will. In his doctrine, salvation encompasses election (predestination), redemption by Christ, regeneration by the Holy Spirit, justification by faith, and perseverance of the believer. Calvin emphasized that God has determined from eternity who will be saved (election) and who will not (reprobation), not based on human works, but solely on His will and grace. This understanding rejects the idea of salvation based on human effort or merit, and asserts that salvation is the perfect and unfailing work of God. This study aims to systematically explain the concept of salvation in Calvin's theology and its relevance in the context of contemporary Christian faith. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study confirms that Calvin's theology of salvation provides a strong foundation for understanding God's absolute and unconditional grace.
