Abstract

This study analyzes the fundamental contradiction between the principles of sober theology that can be reconstructed from the thoughts of Jan S. Aritonang with the phenomenon of gambling among the congregation of the Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa (GMIM). The study uses a descriptive qualitative method with literature studies so that this study can obtain maximum results, the purpose of this study is to find out the correlation of sober theology with gambling at GMIM Sion Kuyanga Aritonang formulates "sober theology" explicitly referring to the management of wealth and how Christians manage the material blessings that God has given., his work consistently emphasizes the importance of simplicity, sufficiency, and sharp criticism of consumerism and greed. These principles are rooted in Christian ethics about responsible management of wealth, focus on spiritual values, and advocacy of social justice.
